Oleksiy Abramov

Oleksiy Abramov

Born on July 11, 1993 in Kyiv. Grandfathers, parents and cousins are energy workers. Tetyana's mother is partly from the southern part of Ukraine, from the village of Pyatikhatky. The maiden name Yatsina testifies to the Roma roots in the family. Serhii Abramov's father, having been laid off, continued to work in the field of heating systems. Oleksiy - the only child in the family - had a really urban childhood, but in the summer he often rested with his parents on a small island: they lived in tents, sailed in boats on the magical Dnieper rivers. As a child, Alexei showed a knack for sculpting, mainly from plasticine. Tatyana's mother keeps the most memorable figurines to this day. It was she who took her son to various circles: "Mom constantly sent him to some circles, one of them was engaged in ceramics. And the teacher, I don't remember, unfortunately, what his name was, says: "Alexei, let mom come next time!" - I was scared, I think, what did I do? He came with his mother, and he said to her: "He has potential, he needs something more serious, there is such a school...". It was he who advised me to send me to DHSSh..." (Now Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State Art Lyceum.)

Mykola Govdya taught Abramov at the lyceum. There he mastered the basics of drawing, composition and academic sculpting, finished 12th grade of the general education program: "The coolest thing was that the sculptors had a separate workshop. We were like the elite, we had the keys, we could walk there" (laughs).
After finishing school, he went to Germany, where he studied the language and visited various art schools, trying to choose the appropriate art education for further education. However, neither the Stuttgart nor the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts were interested. In 2014, he entered sculpture at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, Ivan Mykytyuk's workshop. He studied drawing for several years with Oleksiy Figol, head of the department of academic drawing.
The bachelor's diploma project, led by Volodymyr Honcharuk, is one of the first realized public sculptures. "Stan" still stands today in the courtyard of the Academy (on the initiative of Yaroslav Skakun, who supervised Abramov's master's thesis). At the exhibition you can see this sculpture reproduced in ceramics.
The sculptural composition "Time" was the finale of the academic program, which was later installed in the Solomyansky Landscape Park in Kyiv.
Oleksiy was always inspired by Rodin, Polish sculptor Grzegorz Gwiazda and Mexican Javier Marin. They are close to the author in a certain exaggeration, hyperbolization with which he works.
